The Bowen Central Library of Appalachia partners with each member institution to make it economically possible to provide all ACA students, faculty, and staff with the best library information resources with appropriate professional development and technology services to assist in using these resources to achieve the best possible student learning outcomes.
Bowen Central Library of Appalachia Council
The Bowen Central Library of Appalachia (BCLA) Council meets twice per year. There are currently four standing committees:
Administrative Issues – (AIC) Made up of directors of member libraries, AIC oversees the guidelines and application process for Professional Opportunities, conducts the annual BCLA Services Survey and assists member institutions with assessment.
Collection Development – (CDC) Made up of librarians and support staff of member libraries, CDC evaluates and recommends titles to add to our shared ebook collection, identifies resource sharing opportunities and needs for research databases and establishes policies for collection development and resource sharing.
Programming & Membership – (P&MC) Made up of librarians and support staff of member libraries, P&MC assists with ACA Annual Summit planning, maintains a library employee directory, and identifies needs for targeted workshops.
User Education – (UEC) Made up of librarians and support staff of member libraries, UEC determines the best way to share information among members through workshops, the annual Professional Development Day, the library discipline forum at the ACA Annual Summit webinars, etc. Also monitors developments related to library services and instruction (pedagogy, technologies, best practices, etc.)
In addition to these four standing committees, there is also one task force:
Digital Library of Appalachia Task Force – (DLA) Made up of archivists/librarians and support staff of member libraries who participate in the DLA, the task force is responsible for eliciting participant support, assisting with technical support, promotion of the DLA, and training.
